IRISH SODA BREAD INGREDIENTS
- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 c. whole wheat flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tbsp. baking powder
- 3 tbsp. brown sugar or turbinado sugar
- 2 1/4 c. buttermilk
- 4 tbsp. melted butter
Combine dry ingredients, mixing well. Break up any brown sugar (or use turbinado sugar instead).
Using a wooden spoon, stir in liquid ingredients and melted butter.
Divide the dough into 2 loaves. Cut a X across the top (to let the devil out!).
Bake in a preheated 400°F for about 45 minutes or until browned on top. Cool on a wire rack.
Brush with melted butter while still warm. Irish Soda bread doesn't keep well and is best the day it is made...enjoy it !
